Vanessa Rumie, PsyD

Post Doctoral Psychologist

Dr. Vanessa Rumie is a post-doctoral psychologist at the Williamsburg Therapy Group who provides short and long-term psychotherapy to a diverse client population of children, adolescents, emerging adults, and adults across the lifespan. She has extensive experience providing culturally humble and responsive evidence-based psychotherapy treatment to individuals of all identities. Her clinical interests and specialty areas include social-emotional development (in children and adolescents), trauma, depression and anxiety, interpersonal relationship problems, acute and severe psychiatric illness, and identity affirming care to clients of marginalized identities.

Dr. Rumie’s approach is client-centered She uses evidence-based interventions and a trauma-informed and culturally responsive treatment approach. Although integrative in her therapeutic orientation, Dr. Rumie’s foundational therapeutic framework is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

In the therapy room, Dr. Rumie seeks to create a space that is warm, non-judgmental, validating, and fosters connection and collaboration. Dr. Rumie works with her clients to understand the manifestation of undesired experiences. She is empathetic in her approach and takes a sensitivity toward multicultural factors, fostering a relationship in which the client feels supported in their efforts towards acquiring insight and engaging in behaviors and thinking styles that, although
challenging to implement at first, will lead to increased positive emotional experiences and living more effective and authentic lives.

Dr. Rumie received her doctoral degree in School Psychology from St. John’s University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Baruch College Counseling Center in Manhattan, NY where she worked with emerging adults presenting within a wide range of struggles including identity, trauma, depression, anxiety, stressful life transitions, and substance abuse.

Her previous clinical training includes therapeutic high schools, college counseling centers, and outpatient hospital programs.
