Dr. Leanne Scharr is a psychologist at Williamsburg Therapy Group who provides psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and families. She treats anxiety and mood disorders, OCD, ADHD, behavior problems, and adjustment concerns. She has experience supporting youth and families managing difficult transitions, family stress and conflict, and academic concerns.
In her practice, Dr. Scharr utilizes an integrative approach that draws from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and family systems theory. She prioritizes warmth, openness, and collaboration in her therapeutic relationships, and takes an active role in treatment. Dr. Scharr’s approach to each individual and family is based on their unique needs, strengths, and contexts, and is grounded in research and evidence-based practices. She values collaboration with individuals and systems that impact the lives of children and adolescents in order to support healthy development across settings, and applies her school psychology background to help families and schools effectively partner to best meet each child’s academic, social, and emotional needs.
Dr. Scharr received her masters and doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Widener University Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology, where she focused her training on child, adolescent, and family therapy, as well as school psychology. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center where she received specialized training in the treatment of anxiety and comorbid disorders in transitional aged youth. She has experience providing psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and families across a range of settings, including community mental health, college counseling, school, and private practice settings.
