Dr. Brian Trager is a licensed clinical psychologist who offers individual, couples, and group therapy for a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, and other mood related difficulties. Dr. Trager also specializes in working with clients who want to improve their relationships or find themselves repeating problematic relationship patterns. He helps clients to more effectively manage emotional closeness, intimacy, and uncertainty in relationships. Additionally Dr. Trager works with clients struggling with issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and provides LGBTQ+ affirmitive psychotherapy.
Dr. Trager utilizes emotion-focused, interpersonal, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral approaches in his work. In the room, his emphasis is on creating a safe atmosphere for clients to be open, honest, and curious about themselves. Dr. Trager is active and collaborative and uses direct and stimulating feedback in sessions. Dr. Trager focuses on clients’ strengths to enhance and develop their sense of flexibility and resilience in overcoming their difficulties and cultivating a full and meaningful life. He approaches the work of therapy with great respect, honoring the courage it takes for clients to engage in the unique process of psychotherapy.
Dr. Trager received his masters and doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Roosevelt University in Chicago. His doctoral research focused on the influence of particular personality characteristics on high-risk sexual behavior among men who have sex with other men. His previous clinical experiences include work in Chicago based college counseling centers, psychiatric hospitals, and community mental health clinics.
